Oracle lover nå nye versjoner av Java hvert halvår, så her gjelder det å henge med i svingene. Johnny Egeland, lokal helt og programmeringsspråktrollmann, har satt seg litt ekstra inn i hvilke features som er dukket opp i Java gjennom de siste årene.

Hvis du (som meg) lurer litt på hva når det egentlig er lurt å bruke records, hva var det egentlig med den nye switch-en, hva er nytten av sealed classes, og vil jeg egentlig ha nytte av project Loom, så kom og bli med på en gjennomgang. Johnny har bred erfaring med programmeringsspråk, både på JVM og utenfor, og vil demonstrere og forklare.

"Nye" Java features

Vi er ute av dvalen etter en pandemi, og gleder oss stort til JavaZone om kun få dager. For å varme opp sammen starter vi med et javaBin Stavanger møte hvor målet er å gjøre oss alle klar for å få mest mulig ut av konferansen. Er du klar for å mingle med andre nerder? Har du stålkontroll på hva som står på programmet og hvilke sesjoner som du vil ha best utnytte av? Vi gjør oss kollektivt klare for årets store Java happening.

The speakers for the event will be two well known Java experts from Oracle EMEA, Tim Graves and Andy Gilbert. Tim and Andy will present two talks that will be relevant for everyone who wanna adopt newer versions of Java and the JVM:

# Modules, the perceived hard to get golden egg of JDK - Andy Gilbert
Modules have been available in the JDK since Java 9. Modules give huge benefit from a performance, security and containerized point of view, but is viewed as complex. The talk will help you to understand modules better and to get you started with this part of the Java technology

# Java JDK update primer - Tim Graves
Get a grip on the latest evolvement of Java since java 11. In this talk we will present the highlight of technical and language changes and new features in JDK 11, 12, 13 and 14.

Speaker Bio:

Tim Graves
Tim Graves from the EMEA Cloud Pursuit team will talk about what's been going in Java since version 11. He will be looking at the language changes (sorry, no GC review) and covering how these make Java developers life easier.

Tim Graves is currently a Cloud Native Architect working for Oracle as part of the Europe, Middle East and Africa team. He joined Oracle as part of the Sun Microsystems acquisition in 2010. He has been working on Cloud projects since 2011 in the communications, device and cloud teams. In addition to IoT Tim has worked in many parts of Sun and Oracle in the areas of operating systems, security, Java, and storage in field and headquarters roles. When not working with computers Tim is a keen skier and an unprofessional chef.

Andy Gilbert
Andy has worked for Sun/Oracle for 20 years working as a pre-sales technical engineer talking about Java in embedded and enterprise systems. Before that he worked for the Real-Time operating system company Wind River Systems as a pre-sales engineer.
He holds a BSc Hons. in Computer Science from Staffordshire University. In his spare time he enjoys Scuba Diving, Cycling and drinking Real Ale.
